Overview

The batch data editing facility looks as simple as the edit function of a single record, but is more powerfull yet, since a big bunch of data can be modified at once. Therefore the logic behind the tool are explained in the following sections.

Batch edit browser

After selction of the records that should be batch edited and clicking on the batch edid icon within the compounds properties browser menu bar

The user will be directed to the batch edit browser. In this browser the selected records are in compressed view. Compressed view means, that these records are grouped, which have the Property, the Unit of the property and the Article in common. This might look as a very strikt grouping rule, but keeps enough similarity of the records to make sensible modification to them.

By clicking the edit link the grouped records can be edited.

Batch edit compounds properties editor

In the batch edit editor the same catogories like in the single record editor can be manipulated. In order to make changes in one or more of the categories the check box in front has to be checked.

Property

Two entities can be modified in the property category: the property itself and its unit. By clicking the current property name a new property can be selected and the default unit for this property is set automatically. To change the unit just select a new one from the dropdown box. The predicate and value can not be modified.

Article

Beside the article itself, the page, line and table number can be modified. Click on the article title to select an other article or type a new number into the fields. Each change has to be activated by itself. If for example the line field is checked but the field stays empty no change will be applied.

Evidence

The evidence can be updated to the five known evidence states (No evidence, Measured in this article, measured in this artice (to be verified), Error in the record, invalid record).

Conditions

In order to manipulate conditions, the condition checkbox has to be activated. Within the single conditions changes have to be activated as as well. Adding a new condition to all records ([add] link) is activated by default. Removing a condition ([x] link) removes the condition from the set. To change textual conditions, put a new text in the field. Qualitative conditions are changed by dropdown. For numerical conditions, the value and/or the unit can be changed. Again if the field stays empty no change to the values will be applied, the same is valid for the "do not change" option for the unit. Be aware, if the value field is filled this change will be applied to all records. Exchange of one condition to an other is possible by clicking on the condition name itself.

It might be possible that the condition sets of the records havn't been homogeneous, e.g. Record A: condition A, B, Record B: condition B, C. In the editor all three conditions are visible. Now, if condition A is activated for changes, this condition A will be added to the condition set of Record B.

Visibility

Here, so far hidden records can be made publicly visible.
